Teaching
2024- Theoretical Seismology (scheduled, 300-level)
2022- Earth's Interior (Teaching Assistant, 200-level)
Boris was great! He seemed really interested in the subject. He was super helpful in office hours and sometimes added interesting points in lecture too. Overall one of the best TAs I've had.
- Plate Tectonics (Teaching Assistant, 300-level)
- Physics of the Earth (Teaching Assistant, 300-level for ISP students)
The best TA I haver ever had in my three years here at Northwestern. Period. • Boris was very communicative and helpful in learning and reinforcing content. Most of the TAs I've had in other classes don't even know the content or don't really care about the students, but Boris seemed to really enjoy teaching and helping us, and he knew so much about geophysics. • Boris is just amazing in helping us digest the contents of every week and advocating for the students' understanding of the material. Every discussion section was productive, and sometimes I wish it was longer so we could review everything from the lectures. • Amazing TA. He has a clear understanding of which concepts he must emphasize in discussion (i.e., those concepts which are particularly difficult, that got skipped over in lecture, etc.) Boris was instrumental to my success in this course, and I know we'll all miss him next year! • Boris was very enthusiastic! It was always a good discussion section. He always came to every lecture, which I had never seen a TA do before. Honestly, I couldn't ask for a better TA for this class.
2021- Geological Impacts on Civilization (Teaching Assistant, 100-level)
You could tell that Boris was super passionate and interested in a lot of the class topics. Also added a lot of outside material from his own research that was super interesting. Is a very fast grader and provided ample feedback when an answer was wrong. • Boris was always willing to answer any questions and was really helpful and knowledgable about the material. • Boris was incredibly insightful and helped facilitate really engaging conversations.
- Physics of the Earth (Teaching Assistant, 300-level for ISP students)
He would teach until you understood, and he was very good about explaining and answering questions. • Boris is the goat. Every week I would go into discussion knowing little to nothing about what happened in the past 3 lectures, and Boris would clear up every confusion within 35 minutes. He would also explain the homework questions pretty indepthly after each assignment, which offered some clarification. • Boris knows a lot and he can probably lead the class well, if not better than the professor. He also answers questions not by throwing people the answer key but by guiding people to the right path and clarifying misconceptions. • His primary strength was his ability to explain and summarize concepts glossed over in class, specifically, worked examples. • Boris was great. His review sessions were quite informative and very helpful in preparing for each class. He would always attend class with us, and was also very friendly and pleasant to be around. He was also very understanding and flexible to work with whatever people needed help with.
2020- Petrology - Evolution of Crust and Mantle Rocks (Teaching Assistant, 300-level)
Boris provided great feedback on assignments. • Boris was a great TA who was dedicated to the class and gave excellent comments on homework, labs, and quizzes that aided my overall understanding of the course. • Boris, despite not being an actual petrologist, was well prepared for class and was able to provide strategies for how to think about a problem. He was knowledgeable and kind. He also seemed to be a great help to the professor in many capacities and I trusted him to answer my questions just as much as I trusted the professor. • Boris, you killed it. Super helpful and knowledgeable!
- Physics of the Earth (Teaching Assistant, 300-level for ISP students)
Boris always offered help when I requested it. • Boris was always a great help and he would always answer questions as quick as possible!
Boris was a great TA and was very knowledgeable and helpful. • He seemed to go over exactly the material that I was confused on, which was pretty great. • The TA was very well prepared and taught clearly.
2019- Inverse Methods (Grader, 300-level)
- Physics of the Earth (Teaching Assistant, 300-level for ISP students)
Best TA ever! • Our TA for this course was very helpful and had an extremely thorough knowledge of the subjects we were taught. He answered any questions I had over e-mail promptly and thoroughly and was very good at explaining things in a clear and consistent manner. • Boris was just a super awesome TA. He was great with answering questions, was very supportive, and was very understanding when I forgot to turn in a homework assignment. I really enjoyed his review sessions as he was very good at explaining problem solving strategies. Amazing!
